Why have Distance Learning as well as Supervised Teaching?

Without significant typing practise, speed and accuracy diminish drastically.

I have come across too many students over the years, who have attended multiple typing courses (NOT mine) who are not proficient enough typists to type their homework.

A longer supervised course could ensure the necessary practise is done throughout the holiday but that would be very expensive indeed.

I want to stop parents FROM wasting money

Hence I came up with the idea to have a Distance Learning section of the course.

The initial supervised lessons ensure students know the whole keyboard.

Once completed, if students continue to practise on their dedicated keyboards, they can do so whenever it is convenient, without supervision. Providing a far more cost-effective option.

What’s involved in the Distance Learning section of the course?

  • Parent training

Upon completion of the initial supervised training, there is a remote session for parents to help them support their children during the Distance Learning section of the course.

  • Guided daily typing practice

This can be done at any time anywhere.

  • Technology teaching videos

To be watched when convenient any time in the week.

    • Allow students to learn at their own pace.

      • Younger students can watch with parents (to learn together) and can repeat or rewind if needed;

      • Older students or those already familiar with a particular technology can fast forward.

    • Are available when the course is completed.

  • Regular webinars

    • Reward progress, for the amount of practise done and progress made.

    • Announce prize winners

    • Teach learning technologies and how to use them to improve grades,

    • Provide feedback on optional tasks to reinforce learning.

    • Motivate students to continue to practice.

The exact start time of weekly webinars might change
if students would benefit from separate classes.

  • monitored Practise

    • Students will receive WhatsApp feedback and prompts between webinars

    • One to one meetings will be set up if needed to help overcome specific issues.

  • Parental reports

    • Provided throughout

DO NOT ASSUME SCHOOLS WILL TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO USE THIS TECHNOLOGY

It is understandable for parents to assume that everything included in this course will be taught at school.

This is NOT the case. Sadly it is normally the parent’s responsibility to ensure students take advantage of technology to achieve better grades. That is why
